Description

Additional evidence: folder

  • The Barnard Center for Research on Women has been retweeting explicitly anti-Israel material and messages, including messages such as “From the River to the Sea,” “Free Palestine,” and “Stop the Genocide in Gaza.”

  • Barnard Center for Research on Women reposted Barnard College Professor Nadai Abu El Haj’s posting of Daniel Denvir’s podcast of an interview of Tareq Baconi on Hamas (see link), noting “Tareq Baconi’s work on Hamas is extraordinary”

  • The link to the podcast also requested donations to be made to organizations including Pcrf.net. The Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund is allegedly terror-linked. See, https://www.discoverthenetworks.org/organizations/palestine-childrens-relief-fund-pcrf/ https://www.militantislammonitor.org/article.php/id/196?id=196

  • Some of the statements by Daniel Denvir and Tareq Baconi in the podcast include:

  • “All you hear on the news about Hamas's politics is that Hamas is, quote UN quote, dedicated to Israel's destruction, which is meant to sound really alarming, but is in fact the starting position of anyone who is an anti Zionist.” (03:31)

  • “People calling on you to condemn Hamas and then say nothing else are the ones who truly celebrate death.” (7:45)

  • “Hamas comes out as a movement that challenges that and says no, actually, rather than diplomacy, we have to remain committed to armed resistance for full liberation.” (21:23”)

  • “And we might have our own thoughts about the morality of the struggle of the PLO and the way they targeted, let's say, plane hijackings or, or massacres also elsewhere. But strategically and in terms of tactics, they ended up placing the Palestinian question in the center stage of the international agenda. So in, in that way it worked and the way it didn't work is that then it became associated with terrorism rather than the key demands of the Palestinian people.” (32:50)

  • “It's very difficult to say whether the negotiations would have produced a Palestinian state without suicide bombings. I personally don't think so.” (36:12)

  • “Hamas would launch suicide bombers into Israeli streets … That was in the early days of the Second Intifada and it quickly backfired for, for various reasons, the most important of which is that this was unfolding at the time after the 9/11 attacks against the US, which meant that the War on Terror doctrine was in full swing, and the Israeli authorities were able to convince the American administration at the time, the Bush administration, that the Second intifada was akin to Israel's 9/11.” (42:17)

  • What we saw on October 7th of 2023 is the result of Hamas being able to deal with that strip of land as quote UN quote liberated territory.” (55:33)

  • “But also Hamas’s resistance is something that Palestinians support. So they might have ideological differences in that not all Palestinians are Islamist, obviously, and they might have tactical differences in that not all Palestinians support targeting civilians. But the idea of a resistance force that's dealing with Israel through force is something that Palestinians appreciate…”  (1:06:59)

  • “And so I think it was the right moment to act militarily in terms of being able to exact the greatest cost from Israel's army.” (01:45:43)

  • “We have to do the heavy lifting as Palestinians and allies to figure out and understand what decolonization means for us.”( 01:52:54)

  • “We see what happened on October 7th is now spiraling regionally and globally. So Palestine is in some ways at the center of what it means for us to think about decolonization, what it means for us to actually go into a post colonial world.”(01:53:31)

  • An earlier podcast of Daniel Denvir with Tareq Baconi  and Noura Erakat from 2021 (see link) that can be linked through the posting included the following statements:

  • “Palestinians have so powerfully united across the divides that Israel has imposed fighting for a free Palestine from the river to the sea”  (02:11)

  • “Hamas has created a fig leaf or offered the fig leaf for Israel … to excuse the blockade as a response to Hamas and to Hamas’s quote unquote terrorism against Israel. This is the product of an Israeli effort to portray any form of Palestinian resistance, and in this case resistance, armed struggle from Hamas as a form of terrorism.” (34:30)

  • “What is so incredible about this moment in time is that Hamas is firing off rockets at Jerusalem, took Israel by complete surprise.”  (37:32)

  • The language may have violated Barnard Policy Against Discrimination and Harassment and Related Procedures as it is harassment and created a hostile environment.  See policy.
