  • SJP rally began at 4:30pm on Butler lawn. SJP posted chants on their social media that include “from the river to the sea, palestine will be free.” See /im photo1 and photo2. See . The chants at the rally included “no justice–no peace” and “from the river to the sea, palestine will be free”. See video1 and video2. 

  • Later that evening the SJP rally moved its way down to the east side of campus on Broadway and 115th street. The Kraft Center for Jewish Life, is located on 115th street between Riverside and Broadway. Columbia Public Safety and NYPD responded to the Kraft Center and students and staff were advised to stay inside and lock the doors. The protest then moved back to the main campus.  Kraft instructed students to wait inside the center until the protest fully dispersed. 7:20pm Columbia Public Safety alerted the Kraft Center that it was safe to leave the Center and students could go back to their dorms.   • An open letter in support of the protests signed by Columbia SJP and JVP.

  • This may have violated Columbia University’s Event Policy (Safe and Responsible Event), which states The University has an obligation to ensure that all members of our community can participate in their academic pursuits without fear for their safety. See policy.  

  • This event may have violated Columbia University’s Student Group Event Policy, which states that events must not cause significant disruption and must be requested by the student group 10 days in advance. See policy.

  • These are the official pre-approved protest chants from SJP.
