This protest was planned in collaboration with Science for the People (SFTP) NYC, and advertised on their Instagram page in conjunction with CUAD. It sought to target the Undergraduate Engineering Career Fair, hosted by the Center for Career Education.
Volunteers consisted of Columbia alumni, employees, and current students (ascertained in conversation with participants). Some participants handed out fliers along entrances to the Faculty House, both on and off campus, while others were protesting with a megaphone along the outside fence on Morningside Drive. They changed “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” and in Arabic “from the sea to the sea, Palestine will be Arab” (video).
Fliers targeted employers at the career fair for supposedly “actively participating in the murderous genocide of over 30,000 Palestinians in Gaza”. Israel is written in lowercase letters and quotation marks to represent it as an illegitimate state. Protestors chanted anti-Israel chants and actively called for BDS.
At least one Jewish company representative at the career fair reported being very upset about the protest outside and said he “hopes he doesn't see them on the way out.”
A complaint was lodged with Joseph Taylor, Director of Operations at the Center for Career Education, regarding student intimidation and resulting damage to the pursuit of career opportunities.
Police were present but did not intervene.
A post by cuapartheiddivest on Instagram: “Zionist death-corporations are at the fair recruiting Columbia students.”
