On Sunday, March 24, 2024 Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD) student group organized a “Resistance 101” [__event__](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/palestinian-resistance-101-tickets-868698339117) [[__screenshot__](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sMkIjBLAud53XOtGcTLgPDoHp-Jim-bP/view?usp=drive_link)] at a Barnard facility during Purim, which is the Jewish holiday.

The head of [__WOL__](https://nypost.com/2024/01/02/news/nys-notorious-anti-israel-activist-organized-bid-to-paralyze-jfk/) is [__Nardeen Kiswani__](https://canarymission.org/individual/Nerdeen_Kiswani), who was one of the speakers. [__Khaled Barakat__](https://canarymission.org/individual/Khaled_Barakat) is reportedly a leader of Masir Badil, the Palestinian Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement, has also been identified as a senior leader in the [__PFLP-associated Samidoun__](https://www.jpost.com/diaspora/article-708524)  and his wife [__Charlotte Kates__](https://canarymission.org/individual/Charlotte_Kates)  is also alleged to be a leader in the [__PFLP-associated Samidoun__](https://www.ilfngo.org/_files/ugd/3445b6_84066b0e38144d3287b0f51052ec665d.pdf) , were both speakers at the Resistance 101 event. Barakat has also been alleged to be a [__leader of PFLP__](https://www.jpost.com/diaspora/article-708524).

## **Event Organizers**

Along with **CUAD**, one [__co-organizer__](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sResw06t3vox1KXBuLSe9UTz6Lv4Dor9/view) of the event was [__Within Our Lifetime__](https://www.adl.org/resources/blog/nerdeen-kiswani-and-within-our-lifetime-united-palestine-what-you-need-know) that is known for violent [__protests__](https://nypost.com/2023/11/17/opinion/within-our-lifetime-targets-the-post-over-israel-hamas-war/) and [__disruptions__](https://nypost.com/2024/01/15/metro/pro-palestinian-protesters-target-nycs-memorial-sloan-kettering-cancer-center/) that have put many [__New Yorkers__](https://nypost.com/2023/11/30/metro/7-people-arrested-during-pro-palestinian-nyc-protest/) in [__danger.__](https://www.jta.org/2024/02/12/ny/instagram-removes-accounts-for-leading-nyc-pro-palestinian-activist-group-within-our-lifetime) Another [__co-organizer__](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sResw06t3vox1KXBuLSe9UTz6Lv4Dor9/view) of the event was [__Samidoun Palestinian Prisoners Network__](https://zachorlegal.org/2023/02/20/american-terror-supporting-ngo-exposed-cut-off-funding/), which reportedly [__co-organized__](https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/?p=2434508) with WOL [__rallies__](https://clarionproject.org/2023/01/29/pflp-connected-groups-stage-day-of-rage-in-new-york-city/) in support of Hamas following the October 7th attack.

## **Event Location**

The event was originally planned to be hosted in URIS 326 ([__original flier__](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1c8iPFVmfxk2vN874UKHBuH5V8Y028hTj/view?usp=sharing)). It was then moved to the [__Barnard Center for Research on Women__](https://bcrw.barnard.edu/) (BCRW) ([__updated flier__](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sResw06t3vox1KXBuLSe9UTz6Lv4Dor9/view?usp=sharing)). However, it appears that after initial outcry Barnard [__restricted__](https://x.com/ColumbiaSpec/status/1771999882808570234?s=20) access to campus to those who possessed a valid Columbia University ID. The event was then moved to Columbia’s Q House, a Special Interest Community (SIC) residence for LGBTQ students ([__email__](https://drive.google.com/file/d/16fqnUTjDgaC1Sj10p1IwEy4Me1a33qsd/view?usp=sharing) notifying participants of relocation).

## **Faculty Support**

It was particularly disturbing that [__promotion and support__](https://drive.google.com/file/d/16h5Ej_JN1EZYgDFnA2vuoTHhyB8yE2F6/view?usp=drive_link) for this event featuring speakers and groups affiliated with the designated terrorist organizations came from Columbia faculty chapter of [__Faculty for Justice in Palestine__](https://www.campusreform.org/article/faculty-justice-palestine-groups-form-emulating-anti-israel-student-organization/24937) (FJP).  Another faculty organization [__Barnard Center for Research on Women__](https://bcrw.barnard.edu/) (BCRW) provided logistical support by agreeing to host the event, as was noted above.

## **Follow Up**

The House Committee on Education and the Workforce [__posted__](https://twitter.com/EdWorkforceCmte/status/1772296804714905692?s=20) about the concerning incident, noting that the event was held by Columbia University students with faculty support, and that the event included “Khaled Barakat, who has been identified as a member of the US-designated terrorist org PFLP.”  The House Committee also cited a [__video__](https://x.com/EdWorkforceCmte/status/1772296804714905692?s=20) of Barakat, noting that [__Barakat told students__](https://twitter.com/EdWorkforceCmte/status/1772296804714905692?s=20) how “ ‘friends at Hamas & Islamic Jihad’ emphasized the importance of campus support.”

Professor Shai Davidai wrote a [__letter__](https://drive.google.com/file/d/16hVROTRc-pXDaH526LFnuQkw6tPn9Mzx/view?usp=drive_link) to Columbia administration demanding that all involved in organizing this event be held accountable and reminding the administration that they were alerted to this event in advance.

**March 27, 2024**

* After the event was prominently featured in a number of articles and was tweeted about by the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, the Israeli Embassy and Columbia Jewish Alumni Association, President Rosenbury of Barnard College sent a mass [__email__](https://drive.google.com/file/d/16iKqshT3JWP4mgL4QeIXOQnV61QoREb0/view?usp=drive_link) that renounced all responsibility for this event ignoring the facts that prior to massive outcry, the event had been approved to be hosted at Barnard Center for Research on Women and ultimately took place in another Columbia-managed facility.


* David Greenwald, the Co-Chair of Columbia trustees, sent an email regarding the event. As [__demonstrated__](https://x.com/ShaiDavidai/status/1773187795646828548?s=20) [[__saved__](https://drive.google.com/file/d/171svGMGXFTA-aEWdzDPbTIXR34rRmpm6/view?usp=drive_link)] by professor Shai Davidai, the email was full of half-truths and misrepresentations. 

**March 28, 2024**

* Professor Shai Davidai met with Columbia’s General Counsel [__Felice B. Rosan__](https://ogc.columbia.edu/content/felice-b-rosan), Chief Operating Officer [__Cas Holloway__](https://president.columbia.edu/news/cas-holloway-appointed-chief-operating-officer), VP of Public Safety [__Gerald Lewis Jr.__](https://publicsafety.columbia.edu/news/gerald-lewis-jr-appointed-vice-president-public-safety), and Vice Dean of Administration and Chief Operating Officer of the Business School [__Katie Conway__](https://business.columbia.edu/faculty/people/katie-conway) among others. Professor Davidai requested this meeting to discuss safety of Jewish and Israeli faculty and students in the wake of the “Resistance 101” event where Hamas, PFLP and by extension their violent tactics were praised and students were being recruited to the cause of these designated by the US government foreign terrorist organizations. However, Columbia administrators present refused to engage on this important topic and instead wished to limit the scope of the meeting to professor Davidai’s personal physical safety.
