Description

At the University senate plenary meeting, the senators voted on the Resolution to Endorse the Guidelines to the Rules of University Conduct (included in the plenary binder here and here). This resolution passed even though it dismissed several recommendations by the antisemitism task force in their first report (here) as well as those part of the interim university policy for safe demonstrations (here). Additionally, Jeanine D’Armiento started the meeting by addressing a recent article published about two members of the rules committee being present at the encampment. She said that the faculty members in security vests at the encampment were there “to ensure that the encampment was open to all Columbia members.” She continued by saying “this action of faculty was fully coordinated with Cas Holloway and Gerald Lewis and I also was aware of these activities of the faculty”. See social media posts here and  here. Examples of faculty wearing these vests at the encampment can be found in several social media posts (here).
